Understanding the difference

Home care

Carers visit someone in the home they already live in. The property, tenancy and household stay exactly as they are, and support is added around the existing routine. Visits can be short and occasional or several times a day.

Supported living

The person has their own accommodation and tenancy, with support built around helping them live as independently as possible. It usually involves a wider range of support than visiting care, covering life skills, community participation and confidence alongside any personal care that is registered and appropriate.

Which one applies

Most families arranging care for an older relative are looking for home care. Supported living is more often arranged for younger adults, or through a social worker, care coordinator or commissioner. If you are unsure, we will tell you honestly which route fits, including when neither of them does.

What happens next

  1. Speak to our team

Call us or send an enquiry. We will listen, answer your questions and explain the options honestly, including when we are not the right fit.

  2. Free care assessment

We visit at a convenient time to understand routines, preferences, health and mobility needs. There is no charge and no obligation.

  3. A personalised support plan

We agree a written plan covering what support is provided, when, by whom and how we will keep you informed.

  4. Care begins and is reviewed

Support starts on the agreed date, and we review it regularly so it keeps pace with changing needs.
