What working here is actually like
Care work is demanding, and any employer who pretends otherwise is not being straight with you. The days are early, the responsibility is real, and some visits are hard.
What makes the difference is who you work for. Rounds that account for actual travel rather than a straight line on a map. An office that answers the phone when you call from a doorstep. A manager who knows which of your clients has had a bad week. Being told about a rota change before it happens rather than after.
We are a small local team, and we intend to stay one that carers can talk to. If something is not working, we would rather you told us early than left in month four. Most of what we know about improving rounds has come from carers saying so.
If you have cared for a family member, worked in retail or hospitality, or looked after children, you already have more of what this job needs than you probably think. The rest is training, and we provide it.

The roles available
Care Assistant
Visiting people in their own homes across Barking, Dagenham, Ilford, Romford and the surrounding areas. Supporting daily routines, personal care, meals, medication support where assessed and authorised, and companionship. Morning, daytime, evening and weekend rounds.
Support Worker, Supported Living
Working alongside adults living in their own homes, helping them build independence, life skills and confidence. Longer shifts, more relationship-led work, and a focus on doing less over time as someone becomes more independent.
Bank and Flexible Carer
Cover for holidays, sickness and additional visits. Suits people who want to choose their hours, including those studying or working elsewhere.
Senior and Experienced Carers
If you already hold care qualifications or supervisory experience, tell us on the application. We are interested in people who can support and mentor newer carers.
The things that actually matter
Reliability
Someone is waiting for you, often alone, sometimes since early morning. Turning up when you said you would is the foundation of the whole job.
Patience
Rushing an older or unwell person is how mistakes happen. The best carers move at the pace of the person in front of them.
Warmth without fuss
Personal care is done well when it is handled calmly and matter of factly, protecting someone's dignity rather than drawing attention to the moment.
Observation
Noticing that someone has eaten less, is quieter than usual or has a new bruise, and reporting it. Small observations prevent large problems.
Honesty
Telling us when something has gone wrong, when you are struggling, or when you are not sure. We would much rather know.
Respect for difference
Our clients come from many backgrounds, faiths and cultures. Language skills are genuinely valuable, and so is a willingness to ask how someone prefers things done.
You will not be sent out unprepared

Induction training
Before you work unsupervised, you complete induction covering safeguarding, moving and handling, infection control, medication, dignity and privacy, dementia awareness, person-centred practice and record keeping.
Shadowing
New carers work alongside an experienced colleague before taking a round independently, so you meet clients with someone who already knows them.
Ongoing training and supervision
Refresher training, regular supervision and spot checks, which exist to support you rather than catch you out.
Qualifications
We support carers who want to work towards recognised care qualifications and progress into senior roles.
The practical details
We will be straightforward with you about pay, hours and travel arrangements at the first conversation rather than leaving you to work it out later. Current rates and shift patterns are discussed openly at interview and set out clearly in writing before you start.
Tell us on the application what availability you genuinely have. We would rather build a round that fits your real life than agree hours you cannot sustain, because that is how good carers end up leaving.

Ready to apply?
If you are not sure whether care work is for you, apply anyway and ask us. A ten minute conversation will tell you more than any job description.
